On the morning of March 2, the Ministry of Education held the 8th Outstanding Achievement Award Ceremony for Research in Institutes of Higher Education (Humanities and Social Sciences). Chen Baosheng, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Minister of the Ministry of Education and Leader of the Leading Group on Philosophy and Social Sciences, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. The video conference of the offline sub-venue of the Hubei Provincial Department of Education was held in Hubei Science and Education Building. WUST's president Ni Hongwei and vice president Liu Jing, as well as Yuan Nianxing, an award-winning professor, and Zhang Zhiyong, Director of the Humanities and Social Sciences Division, participated in the award-winning video conference.
The Outstanding Achievement Award for Research in Institutes of Higher Education (Humanities and Social Sciences) is currently the most credible and influential award in philosophy and social sciences in China. In the current selection, Symbiotic Nature and Logical Structure of Ethnic Groups, a monograph by Professor Yuan Nianxing from the School of Literature, Law and Economics of WUST won the second prize under Ethnology and Culturology of the 27 disciplines. This is the first time that WUST has won such an award, marking a breakthrough in the national award of philosophy and social sciences.
Chen Baosheng emphasized that this year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 5th anniversary of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech dated May 17. We will embark on a new journey of building a modern socialist country in an all-round way. The social sciences community in universities should work hard, forge ahead, and jointly add a brand new chapter of advancing bravely to the high-quality development of philosophy and social sciences in universities in the new development stage. We should take responsibilities in accelerating construction, deepening reform, providing consultancy in policy-making and educating the people, cultural security, and the party's overall leadership, and answer the new requirements raised in the new development stage with high-quality development. We should take five model courses: practicing internal skills in the compulsory course in political construction, ideological and political course in fostering virtue through education, the logic course in research and interpretation, the cultural course in creativity and innovation, and the moral course in leading fashion. We will make the most of the leading role of philosophy and social sciences in colleges and universities, to provide more and better theoretical supply and intellectual support for the long-term ruling by the Communist Party of China and the great achievements of the Chinese nation.
