The discipline construction of WUST brought positive news to the start of a new academic year. According to the most recent Essential Science Indicators (ESI) data, released in September 2022, the Computer Science discipline of WUST ranked in the top 1% of the ESI global ranking, following Material Science, Engineering, Chemistry, and Clinical Medicine. In terms of the number of top 1% ESI global disciplines, WUST ranks first in Hubei Province.
Among the top 1% of ESI global disciplines, WUST's Computer Science discipline ranks 652nd out of 662 disciplines in the world, and also ranks 5th among Computer Science disciplines at other universities in Hubei Province, as it is WUST's fifth discipline that enters the top 1% ESI global disciplines. WUST is the first university in Hubei Province that has entered the list.
WUST is currently ranked 132nd out of the top 200 ESI universities in the Chinese mainland. The ranking of our university has improved by 72 places when compared to the global ESI ranking data from July. Clinical Medicine advanced 304 places and Engineering and Chemistry advanced 14 places in our ranking of all listed disciplines.
ESI is an econometric analysis database based on more than 10 million literature records of more than 12,000 academic journals from the Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCIE) and the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) in Web of Science. It is also an essential criterion in assessing the academic achievements and the influence of universities and academic institutions in different countries and regions.
